Modern Canna Scholarship

About:

Modern Canna Laboratories (Modern Canna) is regarded as Florida’s first medical cannabis laboratory and works directly with licensed Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers (MMTC’s) and licensed hemp producers to help ensure that medical marijuana, medical marijuana derived products, and hemp derived products are safe for human consumption. Modern Canna’s laboratories are ISO/IEC 17025 accredited and licensed certified marijuana testing labs (CMTL) in the state of Florida. The Modern Canna Scholarship has been created in an effort to help young scholars achieve their science-oriented academic goals.

Who can apply:

To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled as a full-time student for the 2022 academic year
  • Be currently enrolled at one of the following accredited Florida colleges or universities:
    • Florida Atlantic University (FAU)
    • Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU)
    • Florida Southern College (FSC)
    • University of South Florida (USF)
    • University of Central Florida (UCF)
    • University of Florida (UF)
    • Florida State University (FSU)
    • University of North Florida (UNF)
    • University of West Florida (UWF)
  • Be studying chemistry, biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, geoscience, neuroscience, environmental science, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrate a strong academic record
  • Exemplify leadership and demonstrate passion for the growing cannabis industry

Application Process:

You will be asked to complete an online application which includes:

  • General background information (e.g. contact information and details about your current university or college)
  • Resume/CV highlighting degree and current/past experience in related fields
  • Academic transcripts from your current institutions (and prior, if applicable)
  • Responses to one short answer essay question (Refer below)
  • 15 minute “meet and greet” per shortlist participant

Essay Questions: Create a brief essay that tells us about:

  1. What are the medicinal benefits of cannabis?
  2. Why is proper laboratory testing of medical cannabis necessary?
  3. How will the Modern Canna Scholarship help you achieve your goals?

The response to the several questions above should be written in English and be 500 words or less.*

Responses will be based on:

  • 50% = Thoughtfulness of response
  • 30% = Relevance to prompt
  • 15% = Quality of composition
  • 5% = Grammatical accuracy

IMPORTANT: Before starting the application, please have the following ready for upload:

  • PDF copy of your resume
  • PDF copy of your current or most recent transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
  • PDF copy of your two short answer responses

Terms and Conditions:

The Modern Canna scholarship must be spent on tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for the students’ classes at their primary college or university. Scholarship recipients must be enrolled as full time students at an accredited Florida college or university for the 2022-2023 academic year. Enrollment will be verified after the winners are selected, and all scholarship payments will be made directly to the student to be used towards tuition and education-related expenses. We will withhold the award for any scholar who no longer meets the eligibility requirements and revoke the award for any scholar who does not maintain the eligibility requirements. Selected recipients will receive instructions from Modern Canna on how to receive the award. Failure to complete these steps by the specified deadline will disqualify recipients from receiving the award. Recipients may defer their award for up to one (1) year from the time of originally planned payment on a case by case basis as determined by Modern Canna. Modern Canna employees, children or grandchildren of employees, directors, or owners of Modern Canna Laboratories are not eligible to apply. Persons who are (1) residents of embargoed countries, (2) ordinarily resident in embargoed countries, or (3) otherwise prohibited by applicable export controls and sanctions programs may not apply for this scholarship.
